Miss Hawaii USA Angela Byrd leaves the islands on Wednesday to compete for the Miss USA title in Las Vegas. Byrd, a 23-year-old model, hopes to become the first Miss Hawaii USA since Brooke Lee in 1997 to hold the Miss USA and Miss Universe title. The Miss USA pageant is June 19 at the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino and will be broadcast on NBC.
Byrd grew up in a military family and moved 15 times during her first 18 years. She came to Hawaii during a spring break from a mainland college, became enchanted with the beauty and lifestyle of the islands and moved here in 2007.

Nick Lachey and Vanessa Minnillo celebrated their upcoming nuptials with a wedding shower on Sunday at the London Hotel in West Hollywood.
The couple invited guests for cocktails and appetizers on the rooftop of the hotel which houses “Hell’s Kitchen” chef Gordon Ramsay’s eponymous restaurant.
“Nick and Vanessa greeted guests hand-in-hand,” a witness told People magazine. “Vanessa looked gorgeous in a white dress with a black sash. She and Nick both seemed very excited to celebrate with their families and friends.”
Word has it, former Vista-born beauty queen Carrie Prejean Boller and her husband Kyle Boller are the proud parents of an eight-pound baby. Their baby’s birth, expected on Carrie’s grandmother’s May 9 birthday, came slightly late, on May 11, two days shy of Carrie’s own 24th birthday. Contrary to tabloid reports last fall that they were expecting a boy, the new Boller is all girl — Grace Christina.
