Miss Idaho Teen USA heads to Ivy League

So exciting for Kim Layne, Miss Idaho Teen USA 2012!

NAMPA — Fresh off the heels of a glamorous pageant in the Bahamas, reigning Miss Idaho Teen USA, Kim Layne, is currently touring the U.S. with her father on an Amtrak train and will model in Atlanta before she heads to an Ivy League school later this month.

Even though she didn’t place in the Miss Teen USA pageant, Layne, 18, still had a good time and has plenty to look forward to.

“I had a lot of fun. I’m getting modeling jobs out of it and it was a great experience,” she said of the pageant.

The Skyview grad was an outstanding student and athlete throughout high school. Her efforts earned her scholarships, grants and financial aid that will completely cover the costs of attending Cornell University in Ithaca, New York.

“It was my first choice college and I didn’t have a whole lot of hope that I would get in … but when I got accepted I was crying,” she said.

She plans to be a pre-veterinary major in animal science. She is looking forward to the entire college experience.

Layne will spend a week in Atlanta modeling for Sherri Hill, a dress designer, before she travels to Ithaca. She said she will continue modeling during her breaks from school for the experience and extra money to cover college expenses.

As for pageants, Layne said she doesn’t have plans to do anymore soon, but possibly in the future.
