Miss Minnesota USA & Teen USA 2013 results!

The Minnesota pageants, the final of the seven Future Productions states, were held on Sunday afternoon. The new Miss Minnesota USA is Danielle Hooper and the Teen winner is Maggie McGill.  This year was (as far as I’m aware) the final year for Brianne Anderson and Kristina Ferdig, who have been competing since 2005 and 2006 respectively.  Brianne finished 2RU and Kristina 1RU.  This was a very experienced top five, with all three of last year’s returning runners-up making the top five again, along with Kristina, who has been a runner-up three times previously and Danielle, a past Teen runner-up.  This was Kristina’s second year as first runner-up.

Miss Minnesota USA & Teen USA contestant rundown!

UPDATE - Congrats to Danielle Hooper, Miss Minnesota USA 2013 & Maggie McGill, Miss Minnesota Teen USA 2013!

Miss Minnesota USA and Teen USA is being held this weekend and contestants are posted here.  All of 2012’s runners-up have returned this year - Chrissy Zamora (2RU) won Wisconsin earlier in the year and other runners-up Brianne Anderson (1RU), Wynona Jane Schewe (3RU) and Lindsay Becker (4RU) are all back in Minnesota.  Brianne and Lindsay have extensive experience - I’m guessing this may be Brianne’s last year as she has been competing in Miss every year since 2006.  SHe has placed 1RU twice, 2RU twice and top 15 three times.  She was also a semi-finalist at Miss Minnesota Teen USA 2005.  2012 was Lindsay’s first year in the Miss top five, however she was a Teen runner-up four years in a row, including first runner-up in both 2007 and 2008.  Other returning contestants include 2012 semi-finalists Kristina Ferdig, who has also been competing since 2006 and made top five three times, including 1RU in 2011 and Danielle Hooper, a past Teen runner-up.  Iowa’s 2012 Teen 3rd runner-up Leah Engelbrecht is competing in Minnesota this year.

In Teen the only returning semi-finalist from last year is 2nd runner-up Arianna Lossing.

A quest fit for a queen

The new Miss Minnesota USA, born in a refugee camp, entered her first beauty pageant seeking a scholarship, but also won the crown.

One measure of the American Dream: After your parents dodge soldiers in the Laotian countryside, and your father builds a bamboo raft to escape across the Mekong River, and your family settles in a prosperous neighborhood in Savage, you are crowned Miss Minnesota USA, and the thing that makes you shake your head in wonder is butt glue.

“I never knew about butt glue! Did you know about butt glue?” asks Nitaya Panemalaythong, eyes wide. She discovered it during the swimwear part of the state pageant in November, where there’s a downside of having your bikini bottom ride up your backside. That Panemalaythong had never heard of the glue — officially known as It Stays! Body Adhesive — speaks to her unfamiliarity with pageant culture.

The Miss Minnesota USA pageant is the only such contest that Panemalaythong ever entered. Not only that, but she’s 26, the oldest a competitor can be. She’s also the first Asian-American to be named Miss Minnesota USA.
