Miss Oregon USA & Teen USA 2013 results!

Sorry to be late getting the results posts up this week!  The Oregon pageants were held on Sunday afternoon, with Gabrielle Neilan winning Miss Oregon USA and Summer Pilcher winning Miss Oregon Teen USA.  This was the first time since 2008 that a past runner-up won the Miss title - Gabby was third runner-up in 2010 and first runner-up in Teen in 2008.  Summer had not previously competed at Miss Oregon Teen USA but is one of a number of 2013 Teen titleholders who have held local titles for Miss America’s Outstanding Teen (off the top of my head, also Virginia, Maryland and Mississippi but I think there are more).

Miss Oregon USA & Teen USA contestant rundown!

UPDATE - Congrats to Gabrielle Neilan, Miss Oregon USA 2013 & Summer Pilcher, Miss Oregon Teen USA 2013!  View full results here.

Oregon contestants have been posted here.  There are no photos but I feel we should be grateful simply to have a list, it’s unusual for Oregon!  There are 15 contestants in each division.  In Miss a third of the contestants competed last year which is a fairly high return rate.  2012 third runner-up Abbe Drake, and past runners-up Gabrielle Neilan and Emma Pelett are among the contestants.   I have swimsuit & gown pics for all three - Abbe, Gabrielle and Emma. In Teen the 2012 2RU Kaitlyn Carson and 4RU Karlyn Graves are competing.  Idaho’s Teen Congeniality winner from last year, Morgan Wissel, is competing.

A full list of contestants, including past placements, can be found by clicking “read more” under the 2012 top five photos.  Names of 2013 contestants are in bold under the top five pics.

Alaina Bergsma arrived back in Eugene Monday afternoon from a whirlwind two weeks in Las Vegas, where she represented Oregon in the Miss USA pageant.  She didn’t waste any time getting back to her routine; Bergsma took a final exam Tuesday morning. She says her pageant days are likely over now, but she’ll remember her experience at Miss USA forever.

Bergsma didn’t place in the top sixteen, but she did walk away with a huge honor, voted “Miss Photogenic” by the judges.  She says most of the other girls had taken time off to focus on the competition, while she was juggling a full academic schedule, and volleyball commitments.  Some advice from her coach came in handy during the big show.  Bergsma explained, “Coach Moore always says, if you don’t feel something, you don’t care enough.  So, I don’t know if it was just nerves, or being really excited for it finally happening.  It felt a lot like a volleyball match for me.  You know, when your heart’s racing, you’re kind of trying to control it, but you’re excited, and you’re excited to perform.”

Performing under pressure is something Bergsma is used to.  She says her experience on the court helped her handle the stress of the pageant.

Now, she’ll turn her focus to volleyball.  She has one more season of eligibility to play for the Ducks, this fall.  The team is looking toward a national championship next year.  After that, Bergsma hopes to play professionally, and has her eyes on the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.
